Thank you for joining Neighbors and Friends Walking for a Cure!
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone – runners, walkers, stay at home parents, professionals - there are people right here in our neighborhood that have been affected - and presently there is no known cause or cure.
That’s why we are walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: “You Have ALS” again.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
But, we can’t stop now. The key to a finishing this thing off if YOU.
So on Saturday, June 27, we will walk. Details are as follows:
Meet at the intersection of Carriage Bridge Trails and Spring Hill Farm.
10:00 a.m. – Opening Ceremony
10:15 a.m. – Walk begins
11-12 p.m. – Celebration on the north end of Carriage Bridge Trails with Hacienda Food Truck and popsicles
Other fun facts:
· We will walk an approximate 1 mile, flat walk through the neighborhood
· Scooters, strollers, wagons, dogs are all welcome. If you can’t or don’t want to walk, come on out and cheer us on! The walk will go down Spring Hill Farm, Morning Sun Drive and Wooden Bridge Trail.
· Please wear white or red, the colors of The ALS Association; signs showing support or indicating who are walking for you, balloons, anything of that nature to make it fund are encouraged.
· Social distancing will be encouraged throughout the day. If you are sick or experiencing in cold symptoms, please stay in bed or cheer us on from home.
The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure. Your participation in this activity will help accomplish the above, and will fund important things like walkers, wheelchairs, bath equipment, nutritional supplements and caregiver relief for people right here in our community.
Thank you for your participation and support!
